CHARACTERISTICS & FEATURES: METAFLUX is range of protecting and covering and cleaning fluxes used in the melting of aluminum and its alloys.
METHOD OF USING:
- COVERING AND PROTECTING: Sufficient to form a cover
usually 0.5% - 1.0 % by weight is added in two stages, half in melting
procedure and remainder as soon as charges are fully molten. Cover
should be kept intact if possible until melt is ready for degassing and
grain refining - DROSSING OFF BEFORE POURING: In crucible furnaces when
drossing off is carried out, the crucible sides are scraped and
required quantity is sprinkled on to the metal surface along with
existing flux cover and mixed into the surface of melt until melt is
red glowing dross is obtained. - In reverberatory furnace the quantity of flux needed will depend
on the cleanliness of the charge material and surface area of the melt.
As a guide 12-25 Gms per square decimeter will sufficient. - RECLAIMING OF SWARF, SKIMMING & TURNING: A heel of
metal is melted using heavy scrap or ingot and quantity of flux is
added to form a liquid cover. Based on the degree of impurities and
oxidation of scrap, addition of 5-10 % of flux by weight may be
necessary. - RECLAIMATION OF ALUMINUM FROM HOT SKIMMING: The dross and
Metaflux are added alternatively into a dross cart in sandwich fashion
the application rate of flux being 10% by weight. - The dross / Metaflux mixture should be stirred, raked and passed down until no further aluminum flows from base.
- MODIFYING ALUMINUM / SILICON ALLOYS: Metal is melted down
under metaflux-1/ metaflux-1f when required temperature is reached;
melt is degassed and skimmed clean. Modifying flux 2 or 3 sprinkled
evenly over the surface, usually 1.5 to 3 % by the weight of metal,
when pasty or fluid is worked into the melt for approximately three
minutes.
