White Shrimp Or Vannamei Shrimp

Penaeus vannamei, also known as the Pacific White Shrimp and the Whiteleg Shrimp, is native to the tropical East Pacific from the Gulf of California, Mexico to northern Peru. It is the most widely cultured shrimp in the world and is raised in at least 27 countries, with major production operations occurring in the China, Thailand, Indonesia, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Venezuela, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Belize, Vietnam, Malaysia, Tawian, Pacific Islands, Peru, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador, the United States of America, India, Philippines, Cambodia, Suriname, Saint Kitts, Jamaica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Bahamas. White Shrimp can grow maximum length 220 mm (Food and Agriculture Organization 2011). White shrimp is low in saturated fat and very good source of selenium and vitamin B12. These shrimp have mild sweet flavour and texture is medium in between delicate and firm. Products are available in Fresh and Frozen forms. Fresh products are available in the forms of Head-on shell-on and Headless Shell-on. Frozen products are available in the forms of HOSO, HLSO, Butterfly, EZ-Peel.
