Fused ceramic sand, also called pearl sand in China, is a senior alternatives of quartz sand in foundry industry.

Advantages of quartz sand: widely distributed, low cost; while its shortcomings are obvious: large expansion coefficient, low precision castings, serious sticky to casting surface, difficult to clear the sand. Why is that?

The root cause is that quartz has multiple isomer crystal formation at different temperatures with large volume change. Refractoriness of quartz sand is between 1400-1700a , which is limited and the sands are stick to the casting partial parts such as holes, slots, and hot section. It is very difficult to clean.

In the above-mentioned disadvantages of quartz sand are particularly serious in large steel castings production.

Fused ceramic sand is made from high quality bauxite and treated by calcination, fused, granulation, sieving and other craft. So fused ceramic sand can overcome these shortcomings and greatly improving the quality of the casting.
