Product Overview
Key Features
Metafinish-SNW is a special purposed mould and core coating. It is a
water based coating with TIN as a major ingredient. It is applied on
moulds or cores to get selective improvement in hardness and
microstructure for cast iron.
Properties:
- Colour and Appearance: Black Liquid
- Specific Gravity at 30 deg cent: 1.80 +/- 0.03 gms / cc
Application: Metafinish-SNW is supplied in ready to use form and
is suitable for brushing or dipping technique. When change in hardness
or microstructure is desired in a localize area of a casting,
Metafinish-SNW can be applied and then dried by heating in oven. When
molten cast iron is poured in the mould and the liquid metal comes in
contact with film of Metafinish-SNW, tin molecules from the coating
diffuse into the skin of solidifying metal. Since tin is Pearlite
stabilizer, these localized micro alloying with tin, results in
increase in Pearlite in the matrix and increase in hardness. There is
suppression of undesired ferrite as well as carbides in the
microstructure.
Advantage: Desired microstructure and hardness can be achieved
by localized application of coating in problematic areas or sections of
the casting. This avoid addition of costly alloying in the melt.
Packing: 5 Kgs in poly bucket
Shelf life: 3 months from the date of manufacture.
