The flow of water during operation and the flow of brine used to regenerate the unit are opposite to each other. Treated water is produced with consistent low residual hardness throughout the cycle. Cation Resin ( in sodium form ) is used to exchange sodium ions for hardness forming Calcium and magnesium and thus produce soft water. At the end of each service cycle the ion exchange resin is regenerated with sodium chloride solution after which the unit is ready for the next service cycle.

The softeners are attractive compact easy to operate and maintain. The single multi-port valve is operated by a hand lever; notches on the valve clearly indicate lever positions for various regenerating and operating sequences. This makes it operation foolproof by reducing operator error substantially. It is also far easier to operate than the 6-7 individual valves on conventional softners. The pressure vessel is made up of fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) or SS-316 pipes of poly vinyl chloride (PVC) or SS-316 and all the filters have a single multi-port plastic valve operated by a hand lever.
