With a maximum data rate of 115200bps, it is used in serial communication up to 50 feet. RS-232 connects Data Transmission Equipment (DTE) and Data Communication Equipment (DCE).

RS-232, also known as RS-232C and TIA/EIA-232-E, is a set of electrical, functional, and mechanical specifications used between computers, terminals, and modems.

Universal Asynchronous Data Receiver & Transmitter (UART) used in connection with RS-232 for transferring data between printer and computer. Microcontrollers cannot handle such voltage levels, so connectors are connected between RS-232 signals. The DB-9 connector is a serial port that comes in two types: male (DTE) and female (DCE).
