FCC DeSOx Additive
RDSAAR and Super RDSAAR are SOx reduction additives, designed to catalytically reduce SOx emissions from an FCCU regenerator flue gas stack. Super RDSAAR can be used to control SOx emissions to levels below 25 ppmv SOx, at dosing rates of 5 wt% to 10 wt% of fresh additive additions. Super RDSAAR mitigates costs associated with rare earth compounds, demonstrating on par pick-up-factor efficiency to that of the Super RDSAAR additive. The RDSAAR branded additives are microspheroidal powders, having physical characteristics similar to those of fluid cracking catalyst.

There is no theoretical limit to the amount of SOx reduction that can be achieved with RDSAAR branded product.

Why it works

RDSAAR branded products reduce flue gas emissions through a three part mechanism. First, sulfur bound in coke is oxidized to SO2 in the FCC unit regenerator, where RDSAAR promotes the oxidation of SO2 to SO3. The resulting SO3 is subsequently captured by a patented magnesium spinel as magnesium sulfate. In the second step, RDSAAR is transferred to the reactor where the magnesium sulfate is reduced to sulfide. Finally, the magnesium sufate is hydrolyzed in the reactor and stripper releasing the sulfur as H2S and regenerating the additive.
