Pantoprazole injection is used to treat certain conditions in which there is too much acid in the stomach. It is used for short-term treatment (7 to 10 days) of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) with a history of erosive esophagitis. Pantoprazole injection comes as a powder to be mixed with liquid and given intravenously (into a vein) by a doctor or nurse in a medical facility. For the treatment of GERD, pantoprazole injection is usually given once a day for 7 to 10 days. Intravenous pantoprazole has been shown to be effective and safe in clinical trials. The packets of delayed-release granules must be mixed with applesauce or apple juice and taken by mouth or given through a feeding tube. For the treatment and maintenance of GERD, pantoprazole is usually taken once a day. For the treatment of conditions where the stomach produces too much acid, pantoprazole is usually taken twice a day. The delayed-release tablets are usually taken with or without food, and the granules are usually taken 30 minutes before a meal. Take pantoprazole at around the same time(s) every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take pantoprazole exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often or for a longer period of time than prescribed by your doctor.It helps heal duodenal and gastric ulcers.

Pantoprazole can be given intravenously in patients who have severe vomiting. Pantoprazole inhibits the final step in gastric acid production. This drug binds covalently to the H+/K+ ATP pump and inhibits gastric acid and basal acid secretion in the gastric parietal cell of the stomach. This covalent binding prevents acid secretion, and the number of hours it prevents acid secretion will depend on the dosage of the tablet. Pantoprazole has a rapid onset of action, and the maximum effect of the drug occurs between 2 and 6 hours after drug administration. This drug has a bioavailability of 77% and is metabolized in the liver and excreted via urine and feces. The main purpose of giving Pantoprazole is to reduce gastric acid secretion.
