Lathe Machine Parts

Bed: The lathe's bed serves as the platform for the machine's many other components. Wide box-section columns hold up the cast iron or nickel cast iron alloy bed.

Headstock: The headstock's primary role is to distribute energy to the lathe's various working components.

Tailstock: The tailstock, unlike the fixed headstock, is free to move and is found at the other end of the bed.

Carriage: The position of the carriage is between the headstock and the tailstock.

Saddle: A casting in the shape of a H sits above the lathe ways. The cross-slide, compound rest, and tool post are all supported by this piece of equipment.

Cross Slide: The cross slide has a female dovetail on one end and fits into the male dovetail on the top of the saddle.
