In some combinations such as Model 408/4011 we can ride at speeds of 27+ mph on a flat street and as we approach a hill that is a great effort to pedal up without a motor we flip the switch into 4011 mode.
The 4011 high torque setting is also useful when riding into strong headwinds that would normally slow a cyclist to a crawl without a strong power-assist motor.
