Ac Servo Motor

AC Servo Motors area type of the larger class of servo motor which is an electric motor employing servomechanism for controlling the functions of motors. If a servo motor is operated by alternative current (AC) it is termed as AC Servo Motor and if controlled by direct current (DC), it is called a DC Servo Motor. A servomotor is a rotary actuator that functions for accurate controlling of angular or linear position, velocity and acceleration. The actuator is connected with a sensor for giving feedback about position. So, an actuator is a part of machine or motor that assists it to gain physical movement through the conversion of electrical or hydraulic energy into mechanical energy which is necessary for achieving works output.

Construction of servo motor

Synchronous and Induction are two types of AC Servo Motors, which are based on their construction.

Induction motor a this type of motor are built using small wire loops affixed to rotating armature. An armature is the rotating coil of an electric motor or a dynamo. With the help of electromagnetic induction, voltage is attracted to the rotor. The induction motors are versatile and heavy duty motors made for generating high power along with variable speed control.

Synchronous motor a Synchronous motors are built of a rotor winded with metallic wires in which coils of wire are positioned in the designated rotor slots. This motor is developed to function at a certain speed in tune with the rotating magnetic field. 

AC Servo Motors can also employ gearing to enhance the resultant torque, simplify motor design and minimize speed. In AC motor, several different gear assemblies are employed, such as:

• Spur
• Harmonic
• Worm
