What is Kurkure Namkeen?

Introduction

Kurkure Namkeen is a trademark of PepsiCo for its line of flavored rice, lentil, and maize puffs. The snack first appeared in India in 1999, where it had developed there. The three countries (India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh) are actively producing and selling snack. Some foreign markets, like Canada and the UK, have restricted the distribution of snack.

Rice flour, edible vegetable oil (often palm oil), gram flour, maize flour, spices (including turmeric), condiments, sugar, tartaric acid, salt and E631 are the main ingredients in a bag of kurkure. Kurkure is not totally vegan as milk solids are listed as an ingredient on the Pepsico website's pdf of ingredients.

Ingredients of Kurkure Namkeen

Gram meal, cornmeal, and Rice meal are the basic ingredients that go into making kurkure. Other ingredients include salt, sugar, a variety of oils and fats, spices, and condiments. These components have all undergone a great deal of processing.

One serving of Kurkure, which is equal to 30 grams, has 168 calories, 2.6 grams of protein, and 10.7 grams of fat. 10.7 grams of fat accounts for almost 70 percent of your recommended daily fat consumption.

As a result of the use of processed substances, any and all of the vitamins and minerals have been completely removed. As a result, the calories you obtain from fats and carbohydrates are completely pointless. And not to leave out the fact that it has a very high salt content. Patients who suffer from hypertension or diabetes should not take it as a result. It is also a factor in the development of lung ailments and kidney conditions. In addition, the risk of developing cancer is raised.

Research and the manufacturers of Kurkure both claim that the snack does not include either Ajinomoto or monosodium glutamate, although neither claim can be independently verified (MSG).

Different Flavours of Kurkure Namkeen

Kurkure Namkeen Flavors in India

1. Kurkure Time Pass

This Nepalese snack was only the second one we've ever evaluated, and it has a lot in common with another Indian snack called Kurkure. Similar in size and shape to the first flavor we tried, chicken, this Kurmure was a light orange with darker orange in the cracks, much like the Crunch Cheetos shape we were used to seeing in the chicken flavor. When you took a bite, you were greeted with a satisfying crunch and a sharp kick of spices with moderate heat.

2. Kurkure Chicken

There was a striking resemblance between the treats in this bag and Crunchy Cheetos; both included wiggly sticks and an orange hue, though these were a lighter shade of orange than Cheetos and were speckled with a darker orange. Although there was a faint flavor of chicken lurking beneath the intense heat of the peppers, the snack's intended chicken flavor was overpowered by the peppers. Excellent flavor, particularly for those who enjoy spicy foods.

3. Kurkurke Triangles Lime Pickle Flavour

This snack was of a medium triangle shape, much smaller than Doritos-style snacks, and was mostly orange with a scattering of dark seasoning particles. When we bit into them, we discovered a satisfying crunch and a flavor profile that progressed from relatively mild spices at the outset to stronger, hotter spices midway through and finally into an intense, tongue-numbing afterburn.

4. Kurkure Tamatar Hyderabadi Style

The overall shape was similar to that of Cheetos and other kurkure namkeen crispy cheese curls, albeit the individual bits were less erratic. Typically, cheese curls are produced with corn meal, but these had rice, corn, and gram, all of which could have contributed to their distinctive appearance. There was a satisfying crunch as I bit into it, but the real highlight was the flavor: a fantastically tasty and fiery blend of Indian spices. As a result of how delicious they were, I kept reaching into the bag for more.

5. Kurkure Puffcorn Yummy Cheese

These nibbles looked like cheese puffs but were more angular and had knobby lumps all over them. Most of the popcorn within the bag did not look like the ones on the bag, which had more of a Y shape like Chester's Puffcorn's fake popcorn. Initially, there was more sourness than heat, but the finish was quite pleasant with a moderate burn.

6. Kurkure Naughty Tomato

In appearance, these appetizers resembled the irregular forms and light orange hue of cheese curls, with a dash of darker orange flavor. When I bit into one, I was disappointed to find that they tasted mostly like ketchup and wondered why they were labeled "naughty." It turns out there was a lot of delayed heat, which I discovered as I ate more pieces. It wasn't unbearable, but the heat did increase as I ate more.

7. Kurkure Masala Munch

These chips looked like crispy cheese curls, and they were orange, too, though a darker orange than the Cheetos variety. The Masala Munch had a robust flavor with the addition of a wonderful masala seasoning, and the mild heat complemented the flavor nicely.

8. Kurkure Hyderabadi Hungama

The snacks resembled Crunchy Cheetos, but their overall color was a dull light orange with darker orange in the cracks. The spicy, salty, and slightly sweet flavor profile made it tempting to eat several pieces in rapid succession; nevertheless, doing so resulted in a buildup of spices in the mouth that was nearly unbearable without a cooling drink. Even though the cold cranberry grape juice helped alleviate the discomfort, the heat returned quickly and lingered on in the drink's aftertaste.

9. Kurkure Green Chutney Rajasthani Style

Kure in this flavor came in the familiar crunchy cheese curl shape and was a pale orange/beige tint with some darker patches and sprinkles of green spice. Although their flavor was called "Green," they didn't look particularly green. They didn't taste like cheese puffs because they were seasoned with Indian spices.

10. Kurkure Chilli Chatka

These crispy curls were primarily an orange hue with darker patches, but not the red portrayed on the packaging.

In 2019, Samantha Ruth Prabhu appeared in ads for Kurkure that were filmed in both Tamil and Telugu.

After Kurkure was first introduced in Pakistan in 2007, a number of Pakistani actresses, including Ayesha Omer, Hania Amir, and Iqra Aziz, have appeared in several television ads for the brand. Frito-Lay made the announcement that they intended to bring Kurkure to the American market in 2007 in the month of November 2006.
