Ac Motor

Today AC motors are used in unimaginable areas including in power tools, clocks, disk drives, fans, blowers, pumps, compressors, conveyors, audio turntables, home appliances, washing machines and industrial areas, etc.

These motors just like any other electric motor work with an alternating current supply to generate mechanical energy through magnetism blended with alternate current. The AC Motor structure includes coils to generate a rotary magnetic field within an attached rotor toward an output shaft so that a second magnetic field can be generated.

AC motors are widely used in industrial areas wherever these motors are required to control heavy-duty machines, and timeliness and accuracy are of essence. Based on speed and function AC Motors can be classified into two types: synchronous motor and induction motor.

In case of synchronous motors, as the name suggests, this kind of motor works simply at a synchronous speed and the main function of this kind of motor is to change the AC electrical energy into mechanical energy.

Meanwhile, the induction motora s function is to change the AC power into mechanical power through electromagnetic induction. This type of motor is simply categorized into two types - single-phase and three-phase.

The key to the popularity of AC motors is their simplicity. The rotor consists of a shaft, a steel laminated rotor, and an embedded copper or aluminum squirrel cage. As compared to a DC motor, there is no commutator which eliminates the brushes, arcing, sparking, graphite dust, brush adjustment and replacement, and re-machining of the commutator. The leading features of any AC motor are:

So the advantages of any AC motor can be envisioned as simple and easy design, inexpensive, powerful, AC source can be directly connected, good power to weight ratio and most importantly low maintenance. Meanwhile the applications of the AC motor include, but are not limited to:

 

• Areas where constant motion and permanent speed are not required.
• Wherever applications dona t need very fewer speeds.
• Applications that need high performance and torque.

 

Because of AC Motor's advantages in long-distance high voltage transmission, these motors are used in a wide range of applications due to flexibility, efficiency, durability and cost-efficiency. In the days to come AC motors will find application areas that are unimaginable today.
