Product Overview
Key Features
Thermodynamic Steam traps
The simplest, design of this type trap employs a fixed metering orifice. This design still finds some applications especially where the amount of condensate to be removed is relatively constant. However, it must be very carefully sized to avoid excess steam losses.
In general, these traps use the heat energy in hot condensate and the kinetic energy in steam to open and close a valve.
The disc trap uses a disc as the operating part to open and close inlet and outlet ports. It has a simple, rugged construction; can be mounted in any position; withstands water hammer. It is suitable for a low pressure range, and its condensate discharge temperature closely follows saturation temperature. Disadvantages are: marginal air handling ability; excessive back pressure in return system can prevent trap from closing; high discharge noise level; and dirt particles can increase cycle rate causing wear its life is reduces significantly at pressures above 5 Kg/cm2 .
Cycling of a disc trap is generally governed by the rate of the heat loss through the trap body. Adverse weather conditions, such as high winds and heavy rain, can therefore increase the cycling rate. This can cause energy losses and extra wear on the trap.
