SSG is an investigational new drug (IND) that has been used by the Department of Defense (DoD) for the treatment of cutaneous, mucosal, and visceral leishmaniasis for more than 20 years. Sodium stibogluconate is a parasite illness spread by sand-fly bites that causes cutaneous, visceral, and mucosal leishmaniasis. An organic antimony derivative is sodium stibogluconate. Its mechanism is unknown, although it may work by attaching to thiol groups in the parasite and preventing high-energy phosphate synthesis (ATP and guanosine triphosphate [GTP]). Visceral leishmaniasis is treated with it. The following are common sodium stibogluconate adverse effects:
-Appetitelessness
-Nausea \sVomiting
-abdominal discomfort
-ECG variations
-Headache
-Lethargy
-Muscle ache
-Increased liver enzyme levels
-Sub eternal pain and coughing
-Fever
-Sweating
-Flushing
-the sensation of spinning (vertigo)
-Bruising of the nose or gums
-Skin and eyes that are yellowing (jaundice)
-Rash
-Intravenous administration causes discomfort and thrombosis; intramuscular -injection is similarly uncomfortable.
-Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening allergic reaction (rare)
