Periodically poled lithium niobate(MgO:PPLN) is a new nonlinear optical crystal, Using electric field poling fabricated periodic domain structure, it can realize high efficiency frequency conversion of frequency doubling, sum frequency and optical parametric oscillator from visible light to mid-infrared light by quasi-phase matching (QPM)technique.

PPLN(adding 5 mol% MgO)has the features of high optical damage threshold, large photorefractive threshold and stable performance which can be used at room temperature. Comparing with LBO and KTP, MgO:PPLN has many advantages such as high non-linear coefficient, smaller size, shorter manufactured cycle and easier batch manufactured.
