Medaza (Azacitidine 100mg Injection)

Medaza (Azacitidine 100mg)is an injectablehypomethylating agent (HMA)primarily used to treat certain types of blood cancers by restoring normal gene function and inhibiting abnormal cell growth.

Azacitidine is FDA-approved for the following:

1. Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) :Includes refractory anemia, refractory anemia with ringed sideroblasts, and excess blasts.

2. Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia (CMML) :Used for cases with 10-29% blasts in bone marrow and WBC counts 13,000/L.

3. Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) :Specifically for AML with20-30% blastsand for older adults unfit for intensive chemotherapy.

Azacitidine is apyrimidine nucleoside analogthat works by:

1. Hypomethylation of DNA :InhibitsDNA methyltransferases, reversing hypermethylation of genes associated with cancer progression.

2. Cytotoxic Effects :Incorporates into RNA and DNA, disrupting synthesis and triggering apoptosis in abnormal cells.

These dual actions target abnormal bone marrow cells, promoting the growth of healthy cells.

1. Subcutaneous (SC) Injection :Most common route. Administer in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.

2. Redness, swelling, or discomfort at SC injection sites.
3. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation.

2. Tumor Lysis Syndrome (TLS) :Rare but serious complication; monitor electrolytes in patients with high tumor burden.
