Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia (CMML) :Used for cases with 10-29% blasts in bone marrow and WBC counts 13,000/L.
Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) :Specifically for AML with20-30% blastsand for older adults unfit for intensive chemotherapy.
Azacitidine is apyrimidine nucleoside analogthat works by:
Hypomethylation of DNA :InhibitsDNA methyltransferases, reversing hypermethylation of genes associated with cancer progression.
Cytotoxic Effects :Incorporates into RNA and DNA, disrupting synthesis and triggering apoptosis in abnormal cells.
These dual actions target abnormal bone marrow cells, promoting the growth of healthy cells.
