The dormant form of bacterial population @ 10 rest to 9 cells/ml gets activated when applied to the soil. The microbes produce fresh batch of viable cells. The organisms grow and multiply by utilizing the carbon source from organic matter in soil or from root exudates. During their growth cycle, they produce organic acids which solubilize bound phosphorus and make it available to plants.
