Ladakh is distinct in its culture and topography. It is a high altitude cold desert and the region is part mountain and part flat terrain. Leh, the capital is located at an altitude of 3,300 mtrs. The landscape is glorious but stark - thesurrounding mountains are painted in colours that only nature can choose. The region is predominantly Buddhist and several important Buddhist Monasteries are where the venturesome go for river rafting and for exhilarating treks.
