Ginkgo biloba is a highly unusual non-flowering plant native to China. It is the only living species in the division Ginkgophyta, all others being extinct since Pliocene. Ginkgo biloba is recognizably similar to fossils dating back to the Permian period 270 million years and is one of the best-known examples of a living fossil. It's relationship to other plant groups remains uncertain.
