Dynamic Storage System
The VSS+ DC Energy Storage System from SOCOMEC is a short duration, clean energy storage system. Using a very high speed rotating flywheel, it stores kinetic energy which is instantaneously converted to useful power when needed. It can supplement or eliminate the need for batteries in UPS application. The VSS+ DC systems may be used in conditions where battery use is impossible or to work in parallel with batteries to handle brief power outages or voltage sags thereby extending battery life.

Principle
VSS+ DC uses a very high-speed, rotating flywheel.
The rotating assembly is held up by maintenance-free electromagnetic levitation, with no contact with other parts. A maintenance-free internal system vacuum eliminates friction and maximizes energy efficiency. The flywheel-driven generator supplies energy to the UPS during a power failure, thus providing continuous power to the load. When mains power is restored, the flywheel takes between 20 seconds and 2 minutes to return to full speed.
