Lyxumia Insulin Pen

Lixisenatide is a selective GLP-1 receptor agonist. The GLP-1 receptor is the target for natural GLP-1, an endogenous incretin hormone that enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells. The effect is mediated through a specific interaction with GLP-1 receptors, leading to an increase in intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). Lixisenatide stimulates insulin secretion in response to elevated blood glucose levels, but not at normal blood glucose levels. This reduces the risk of hypoglycemia. At the same time, the secretion of glucagon is reduced, but the normal mechanism of glucagon secretion is preserved during hypoglycemia. Lixisenatide delays gastric emptying, thereby reducing the rate of glucose increase in the blood after a meal.

Practical information:
Dosage and administration of Lyxumia:
- The starting dose is 10 micrograms once daily.
- The maintenance dose is 20 micrograms daily, starting from day 15.
- Specific blood sugar monitoring is not required when using Lyxumia.
- It is administered subcutaneously in the thigh, abdomen, or upper arm.
- Inject within 0-60 minutes before a meal (at the same mealtime each day).
- The patient takes 10 micrograms of Lyxumia for 14 days. After this, the patient continues treatment with 20 micrograms per day. Each pen contains 14 doses, and one pen lasts for two weeks. Each pack is sufficient for four weeks.

For the first three months, the patient will need: one starter pack and two maintenance packs.
