Sanitary Fittings

Sanitary fittingscomponents are to be installed in piping system for bathtubs, washstands, shower sumps, traps, and bidets. These fittings are also manufactured for use in toilet bowls, urinals, lavatory pans, flush tanks or taps. Sanitary fittings are designed and constructed for use in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, medical and biological applications in areas where hygiene and cleanliness are needed.

Types of Sanitary Fittings:

Sanitary fittings are classified on the basis of connection type and function that they perform.

Under connection type, sanitary fittings are connected to tubes, pipes, or hoses via a number of different connection methods. Following are the different fittings:

A. Ball and sleeve fittings: These fittings tend to connect an outer sleeve to an inner ball fitting.

A. Barbed fittings: These fittings connect hose flexible tube through a barbed end with a tapered stub and ridges that are inserted into the vessel.

A. Cam-lock fittings: These are connections through the use of tabs that are folded down into the receiver to lock the fitting in place after insertion.

A. Compression fittings: These fittings tend to connect vessels through compression on a gasket, ring, or ferrule.

A. Crimp fittings: These fittings place a vessel over a tubular end and crimping against it with a sleeve or crimp socket.

A. End fittings: These are specific end surfaces for making connections.

A. Flanges: These are ports with flush surfaces perpendicular to the attached vessel. These surfaces are joined and sealed via clamps, bolts, and/or welding.

A. Luer locks: These fittings work through a quick twisting action.

A. Push-on fittings: These fittings are designed to take vessels by pushing them into the end.

Functions of Sanitary Fittings:

Sanitary fittings perform the following basic functions:

A. Adapter: It connects two dissimilar vessels to each other through solvent welding, soldering, or threading.

A. Coupling: This is done for connecting two similar vessels to each other through solvent welding, soldering, or threading.

A. Sleeve: This tends to connect two vessels to each other through mechanical fasteners such as screws and anchors.

A. Union: Union can be disconnected without cutting.

A. Cap: It covers the end of a vessel and gets attached on the male end through welded or threaded connection.

A. Plug: It tends to closes off the end of a vessel through threaded connection.

Uses of Sanitary Fittings:

Sanitary fittings are clamping devices that are used to connect two ferrules together in a way that meets the high hygienic standards of regulatory agencies. Sanitary fittings are commonly used for wash basins, sinks, bath tubs, water closets, urinals and flushing cisterns.
