Alloy Steel is
widely used in various industries for various applications. The steel is
alloyed with more than one element, which gives it added strength, durability
and hardness. The alloying elements are added to the base iron and carbon
structure to give its necessary resistance and strength. The alloy steel
reflects various environmental and chemical properties. It also changes the
physical properties to an extent and the mechanical property of the steel
depends on the proportion of alloying elements.
Effects of Alloying
The primary
objective of alloying the steel is to give more strength and resistance to
wear. When additional elements are mixed to carbon steel, it can alter it in
many ways. Mostly these alterations can affect microstructures, mechanical
properties and heat treatment properties. When the carbon steel is been treated
with other elements whether it is cold-formed, heat-treated or hot-rolled, it
will expand the possibility of the carbon steel application. When an
application requires high strength and durability, it is imperative to
eliminated carbona s inherent brittleness, so the solution is to remove a
certain amount of carbon from the steel and add manganese or nickel. This will
make the steel strong and ready with the required weldability.
Types of Alloy Steel
Alloy steels
principally are of two kinds of category a low-alloy steel and high-alloy
steel. The proportion of alloying elements regulates the property of the steel.
Low alloy steels have 8% or lower than alloying elements, whereas high-alloy
steel has more than 8% of alloying elements. Stainless steel for example has a
high alloying element, with at least 10.5% chromium by mass. This has the
advantage of corrosion resistance. Nonetheless low-alloy steel has some subtle
advantages such as free-machining and hardness.
Alloy Steel Products and Applications
Alloy steels are
predominately used in various industries such as automobile, mining, machinery
and equipment, railways and others. The product lines are hundreds in numbers
and highly demanding in industries. Some of the alloy steel products are alloy
steel pipes, tubes, alloy steel flanges, alloy steel forged fittings, alloy
steel sheets and coils and many others.
Applications
- Alloy steels are used for modern infrastructures such as bridges, airports, skyscrapers, and others.
- Alloy steels reduce the overall weight of the structure, so it has been widely used in making residential as well as commercial buildings.
- Weathering steels have lots of advantages such as high safety, low maintenance, aesthetic looks etc.
- Alloy steel strips and coils are used in making wall and roof claddings, light steel frames, side rails and others.
The products such as alloy steel, alloy steel flanges, alloy steel sheets, alloy steel tubes and others are supplied to the customers as per their specific demands.
