This product is a good tool on DNC site. There are 25 pin D- type male & female connectors and also 9 pin male & female D type connectors. The pin connections are kept standard. The use of this product is as under -
1) 25 pin to 9 pin convertor : It is a simplest way to convert 25 pin D type RS-232 signals in to 9 pin D type RS-232 signal. It may be a female or male connector, as required.
2) RS-232 signal Monitor : There are RED & GREEN coloured LEDs on this product. They indicate the RS-232 signal polarity. Rx, Tx, RTS & CTS signals do change the polarity from +12 Volts to -12 Volts. The RED indicates negative voltage while GREEN indicates positive voltage.
How to use it for diagnostics : Since there are LEDs, one can just plug the RS-232 signal Monitor to RS-232 connector. It will instantly show the status of Rx,TX,RTS & CTS lines. Most of the RS-232 ports will show -12 volts (Steady State) when there is no data transfer. During the data transfer the indicator will show RED & GREEN. The blinking will be as per the baud rate set. At lower baud rate of 300, one can see the flickering very clearly. This helps to confirm the cable connections also.
