Form and Strength



Methocarbamol tablets are available in two main strengths for oral administration:

500 mg tablets: Often light orange, round, and film-coated.

750 mg tablets: Typically orange, capsule-shaped, and film-coated. Mechanism of Action



The precise mechanism by which methocarbamol works is not fully understood. However, it is believed to act on the central nervous system (CNS) rather than directly on the muscles themselves. Its muscle-relaxing effects are thought to be related to its general CNS depressant and sedative properties. It may also inhibit polysynaptic reflexes in the spinal cord, which helps to reduce involuntary muscle contractions and spasms. Methocarbamol has no direct effect on the contractile mechanism of skeletal muscle.



Dosage



The dosage of methocarbamol varies depending on the severity of the condition and the individual patient.

Initial Adult Dose: A common starting dose is 1500 mg, taken four times a day for the first 2-3 days.

Maintenance Dose: The dose is often reduced after the initial period to 1000 mg four times a day, or 1500 mg three times a day.

Maximum Dose: In severe cases, a doctor may prescribe a maximum daily dose of up to 8000 mg for a short period (e.g., the first 48-72 hours).

It's important to take the medication exactly as prescribed and not to take more than the recommended dose, as this increases the risk of side effects.
