What a blood lancet from a needle?

A blood lancet and a needle are very different. I think you meant to ask what makes a blood lancet different from a surgical needle. A surgical needle is a hollow device, made up of stainless steel, that can be connected to a syringe to either draw out blood from the vein or inject medicines or vaccines into the body. The syringe acts as the storage unit. There is a pump connected to the syringe, and whatever medicine or blood needs to be stored, is collected by the action of the movement of the syringe rod. A blood lancet is not hollow, and its sole purpose is to pierce a tiny section of the skin on the finger so as to draw out blood. The depth of penetration or piercing depends on the pressure setting of the lancet. There is a trigger mechanism, that needs to be activated and released for the lancet to operate.

How frequently may a blood lancet be used?

A blood lancet may be used as many numbers of times a day, as needed. However, we see that blood lancets are generally used by diabetic patients to monitor their blood sugar levels. Remember, there is a difference between the epithelial sugar level (that is, the sugar reading in the blood collected from skin piercing) and a plasma sugar level (the sugar in the plasma of the blood drawn from a vein). Blood sugar readings are generally done on an empty stomach with at least 10 hours of fasting or two hours after a normal meal. At the initial stage of diabetes detection, doctors recommend monitoring blood glucose levels twice a day, for 15 days, and then reducing the frequency to twice a week, depending on effectiveness of the medicine or insulin.

Where on your finger should a blood lancet be placed?

The lancet should be used to draw blood from the tip of the finger. Generally, the middle finger or the ring finger is used to draw blood. However, there is no hard and fast rule regarding it. Remember, the purpose is to draw out a drop of blood from the body. The skin on the fingers is thinner than the rest of the body, thus easier to draw blood. Remember to sanitize the skin, and lancet before piercing.

How long may one blood lancet be used?b

One lancet with a needle attached should not be used more than once to draw blood, and one lancet should never be shared with others. If you are reusing a lancet, then sanitize the lancet needle immediately after use and place the lancet in a solution of antiseptic liquid. However, refrain from reusing a lancet, and keep changing the needle after use.
