How regulators work?
Let us look at a Single stage regulator. High-pressure media enter the regulator through the inlet into the high-pressure chamber.

When the adjusting knob is turned clockwise, it compresses the range spring and exerts a force on the diaphragm, which pushes the valve stem open. Gas entering the delivery pressure chamber begins to build pressure and creates a counter-force (counter to the pressure adjusting spring) on the diaphragm.
