* Right now in the aquaculture industry the scampii culture is playing vital roll due to continuous bacterial and viral problems in tiger prawn culture. The Hiant Fresh Water Prawn i.e., Macrobrachium rosenbergii otherwise known as Scampii is cultured in traditional methods since long time. Generally this culture is cyclic type. Earlier stockings and regular partial harvesting was a common practice in this culture which was replaced by nursery and grow out pond operations.0
* During recent times nursery stocking, harvesting after six months, artificial feeding etc., were seen in this culture. The scampii culture is preferred due to risk free crop, low investment and viral disease free culture.
* All the types like extensive, modified extensive, semi-intensive & intensive culture methods were in force in scampii culture. Most common stocking densities generally seen in India were 1-2 pcs / sq.mt and 3-7 pcs/sq.mt. There are two types of culture under practice like monoculture and polyculture. In polyculture generally fresh water fishes and scampii were good combination, where the fish seed should be stocked after two months of scampii seed stocking.
