Polyvinyl Butyral is the most widely used acetal of Polyvinyl Alcohol Polyvinyl Butyral.

The physical and the chemical properties vary depending on the butyral, acetate and alcohol contents.

Thermal and mechanical characteristics and viscosity of the solution are largely influenced by the degree -of polymerization. The presence of hydroxyl groups enhances not only good wetting of most substrates but also -provides site for further chemical reaction if required. Adhesive characteristics, tackiness, flexibility -and viscosity increase as the hydroxyl groups in the product increase. The butyral group gives water resistance -through its paraffinic structure.
