Therefore, these ropes are sometimes called Line Contact Wire Ropes.
Parallel Laid ropes, with wider area of contact between component wires, are developed to minimize wire breaks caused by internal wire wear especially when the ropes are subject to repeated bending.
The most basic strand constructions of parallel laid ropes are divided into 3 types, namely SEALE type (Symbol S), FILLER Wire type (Symbol Fi), and WARRINGTON type (Symbol W). To improve flexibility of parallel laid ropes, various combinations of 3 basic construction types have also been developed.
These are SEALE-FILLER Wire type (SFi) and WARRINGTON SEAL type (WS). Combining parallel lay construction with cross lay construction is also possible to obtain SEMI-SEALE type (SeS) and SEMI-FILLER type (SeFi), etc.
