Aluminum Wire

As the name suggests, Aluminium Wires are electrical conducting wires meant for installation in electrical transmission lines. Used as an alternative to copper wire, aluminium wires are known for good electrical and mechanical properties, and costs less. Because aluminium is a weaker conductor of electricity than copper, it is rarely employed in small-scale applications such as residential wiring. However, when the copper prices soared in the 1960s, then aluminium wire became the preferred choice.

The aluminium wire appears to have more flexibility, and cost advantages over the conventional copper wires. Aluminium wiring was favoured over copper wiring mostly due to the rising cost of copper. To prevent any heat-related accidents, aluminium wires are coated with special grease and wiring devices.

Properties of Aluminium Wires:

• Corrosion Resistance: Surface treatments such as metal anodizing, lacquering and painting can help to increase this feature even further.
• Low-Temperature Strength: Unlike steel, which becomes brittle quickly at low temperatures, aluminium wires retain their tensile strength as the temperature drops.
• Reflectivity: It is a good reflector of visible light as well as heat, and that together with its low weight, makes it an ideal material for reflectors.

Uses of Aluminium wires:

• In the construction industry: Aluminium is a great alternative to copper and is widely utilised in the construction industry. Where low voltage is required, electricians and contractors employ big diameters of aluminium building wire. Because it is half the weight of copper wire, it is more cost-effective for contractors.
• In the electrical distribution industry: For the transmission of electric current, utilities such as electrical distribution corporations have used aluminium wire extensively across their distributing systems (power grids).
• In the communication industry: High-quality coils, power cables, and antennas are all made from copper-coated aluminium wire. Household wiring, headphones, cable wire, loudspeakers, and antennas are just a few of the commercial and residential applications for the aluminium-copper combination.
• In broadcasting networks: For information transmission, modern broadcasting networks (radio and television) rely heavily on aluminium wire (CCAW). There are two types of radio networks: one is used for broadcasting and updating, as well as advertising and marketing, while the other is the backbone of police and armed forces (used for communicating with each other).
• In the medical field: Medical science tools that are used in diagnostic processes, such as medical ultrasonography, also use aluminium wire.
