The body of a wafer mount knife-gate valve holds a frame that supports your actuator (which is usually a linear cylinder). The rod of your cylinder is connected to the stem of your valve. As your cylinder extends (pushing the rod out), the knife slides smoothly into place across your flow until it seals against the seat on the far side.
