The basic material is often slurry or solid manure. Regenerative raw materials or waste from the food industry are generally used as co-fermentate.

The gas produced is composed of 50-70 % of high quality fuel, methane, carbon-di-oxide, nitrogen and trace gases (such as hydrogen sulfide) and its other constituents. Improving waste management while maximizing the use of an unexploited renewable energy source is the benefit of biogas engines.
