On one hand we are aspiring to become a global economic powerhouse and on the other hand this onward march is being dragged down by political ideals which see no logic and have no rationale. Yes it about the stalled Indo-US nuclear deal.
Without mincing too many words I can say that India’s commerce in civil nuclear energy is a must to ensure that the nation gets its fast growing energy requirements met from various sources.
There are estimates that tell me that the 123 Agreement will open up investment opportunities worth more than $ 40 billion over the next two decades to step up nuclear power generation. Leading US firms are willing to forge joint ventures with Indian firms both in the private and public sector. So why are these so-called well-wishers (read the Left parties) opposing the deal?
I feel that India has nothing to lose by going ahead with the deal. If the US falls short of what India wants, we can always walk away from the deal.
On the other hand, if the US delivers, India stands to gain a whole lot. It's not just a gain in the area of energy, but also in space research, missile technology, computing, high-end materials, generalised industrial R&D outsourcing. And above that I think India’s place among the world’s top powers will be undisputed. India’s admittance to the nuclear club, without even joining the non-proliferation treaty goes to show that the nation will not allow interference by any other country — not the US... not any other country. India today is being recognised as a power to reckon with!
It's a shame that the country's political parties (that too all constituents of the government) are divided on such a vital issue that can change the face of the nation. The government deserves full support on this key agreement from different sectors of society. So, are we all for the deal?
It is simply a political stunt. Because they need power not people and country development. See Left party heads are well educated and know the truth. It is only a prestige issue and they are trying pressure tactics. The Left party always stick on their old traditions. So we all should support the deal.

Dear Bikky,
You have rightly pointed out the blockage created by the Indian polity to the progress of the nation. This is become a matter of perennial concern despite the opening up of the Indian economy and strive for growth through international co-operation.
Now it is time to redo the Indian constitution, which in my opinion is no more suitable for India at least to a great extent. And such a step could be initiated only by the citizens of this great country who are now silent spectators to the hooliganism being done by the vested interests, in absolute helplessness.
May be we have to choose an undisputed leader like Dr. Abdul Kalam to head the citizens' movement to redo the constitution which will be helpful to the growth of the Nation. With out such a correction to set right the issue at the grass-root level, any amount of writings has no meaning.

Dear Sir,
People in India are finding it hard as to why the LEFT is opposing the Indo-US nuclear deal. But to me it has been clear from the very beginning that they are doing this at the behest of their master - China. The LEFT betrayed the country during freedom struggle and again during 1962 Indo-China war. They are traitors in disguise. China is funding both the Maoists/Naxalites(armed) and LEFT (political). They should be exposed by the media. The sooner the better.

They're really ill wishers in the guise of well wishers it seems. Anyway when something gets into the track for the development of the nation, it's India's fate that it has to face hurdles like these. The deal which passed the hard US Congress, will surely win this also, (How bad may be the stopline, that much power India has to reckon). It's also sure that these prospects of the nation are not only becoz of the ruling party's endeavours, it also gets its stuff to win also by the oppositions. So no doubt, India gonna boom in all spheres.

Greetings
Very nice to hear touch of class views and comments to educate the common public and the same time the middle business class like us.
In the recent past read a news in the Daily news that India and China buying Cars for the Railway.
China buying the top of the class with most modern facility but with a condition that all the goods must be manufactured in China, Where India purchasing the Cars from Japan a manufactured one, which may think in the future about manufacturing.
China purchasing the best start of the art half the price almost the same number of cars which India buying from Japan.
No compromise on quality, no compromise on price, achieving the best price available in the market and India is vice versa that compromise totally if the negotiators pocket are filled well.
In these scenario, their was a saying that Do not see with whom you are talking and listen to what they talk and Indian Politics they do not bother what they talk and least worried only whom they talk.
Common public to take up necessary thoughts and action to the betterment of the nation. Successful is the person who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much, who has never lacked appreciation for the earth's beauty, or who never fails to look for the best in others.

Dear Mr Bikky Khosla,
The agony is understandable. In this deal, the Left, the Center and the Right all are at fault. It shows the pathetic situation of our democracy. It is known that the Opposition will oppose, but of late due to coalition, even those sharing power have started opposing.
This displays the lack of communication. This deal has been going on for some time, and the details - each and every aspect should have been discussed with all the elected members much earlier. Comments, opinions and suggestions should have been sought with a time frame. Such deals of great magnitude also needs efficient leadership qualities to bring around all, with a positive attitude.
But now the few days have shown the political immaturity of all our leaders.
Whether the deal is good or not, a consensus should have been reached before signing the accord.
That's one reason, this was not done during the reign of His Excellency Shri Abdul Kalam, maybe?
It is time, the people of this country realize the importance of good dedicated and educated people to lead this country, openness in all policies and decisions.
Let's hope and pray, that people like you continue to comment and arouse peoples wisdom.
Warm regards

I do not understand why anyone should oppose the nuclear deal with USA. It is not that India is giving up something in return and I agree with you that if the US does not live up to this commitment India can always walk away. If it comes it comes if it does not come it does not come.
Interestingly this reminds me of a similar debate that took place just after independence and partition when Britain and America were wanting India to join the commonwealth and it was being said by Britain that if India stays out Pakistan will get all the benefit including nuclear technology. These days it is the policy of engagement.
Although I am a Pakistani but I believe that benefit of any south Asian country is eventually the benefit of all south Asia and India should make the best of this situation and pass some to us always.

Dear sir,
You are absolutely right. We have to have one policy for nation as far as vital issues are concerned. The way we are behaving sends wrong signals to people wishing to do business with our nation. It also weakens our position globally.
If you go through NATO nations strategy you will find them having common programme as far as these NAM countries are concerned. Likewise we have to identify ourselves belonging to certain group.
We can not afford to be Non Aligned Movement Nation or China & Pakistan shall come forward to harass us.
We have to join our hands with developed nations to ensure our developments.
The political parties should be banned from deciding altogether certain aspects of our foreign policy & defence policy. It should be in the hands of certain political committee appointed & not elected every 5 years.
At present if they bring country to standstill from development the future generation is never going to forgive people who oppose development.
They may argue about sovereignty but in Global days it is immaterial when basically we are dependant on others for so many things we can not be independent.

It is well known that the Left parties are funded by China and Russia. China doesn't want India to be too powerful militarily nor diplomatically. Russia sees losing an ally. Therefore, Left wants India to be like orthodox Indian wife i.e. to stay behind the husband China. BJP is just playing jealousy game as they are seeing the credit passing to 'Con'-gress. This is politics of India.
It is better to be wealthy and proud nation than to be poor and powerful nation. Russia and China understood that and let in the western MNCs to invest in their country. See Japan, South Korea and to certain extend Turkey.
Don't let USA gain Pakistan's respect. Pakistan is like that jealous brother who will go to all extend to bring down his big brother India. Pakistan lets itself become a stooge when it comes to be friend of USA or China. It was used by USA in bringing down Russia and curtailing to certain extend the relationship between India and Russia. It is used by China to make sure India doesn't become militarily and diplomatically strong as it fears the uprising it Tibet which India supported.
Left has to be thrown out of politics completely to safeguard the future of India. It will always be the iron bracelet on future development.

Greetings,
Your comments and thoughts are very valuable indeed. While the sub-continent was bombed by joint handedly together with British brain, tailored by Congress and Muslim League into almost 10 countries or more. Now it's high time to be together as they are but with out no boundaries between, like the Scandinavian countries joined together, now European Countries and almost African Countries are in the fray, why not the Sub-continent.
It is the only solution to prevent such ammunition race and all the resources of these countries are looted by Big 8 Countries though supplying all waste ammunitions and so called technologies and betray the sub-continents by Fox-Goat Story and lick the blood of the poor nation.
Wake up and debate the subject globally by the sub-continent people and open the eyes of the Ruling tycoons.
Hope for the best
Cheers
