Urad Dal Appalam

An Introduction An Appalam is a disc-shaped, thin and crispy food that was originated in southern part of Indian subcontinent. To prepare papadum, dough is made with flour of peeled black gram, which is further given a thin round shape, then dried and fried before eating. This snack has been on the mouth of almost every Indian by the name of Papad. As the variety of flavors and taste preferences of people are different, these papad are prepared with adding different spices and from flours of several ingredients such as rice, potato, lentils, rice, to name a few. Appalam are commonly consumed as an accompaniment to a meal, but also served as an appetizer with chopped onion, salad, chutney and other dips.
