Using a neutral earthing transformer, neutral point can be created for ungrounded systems or electrical systems with no star points. This artificial neutral is created to limit the imbalanced as well as fault currents to a particular value. This system also provides a low impedance path to the neutral. The neutral earthing transformer can be used on generators to limit the bolted fault currents. Irrespective of the size and term of fault current, the transformer allows it to flow and ensures the circuit breakers or fuses quickly clear the fault and minimize the damage. For grounding an ungrounded system, either delta-star grounding transformer or zig-zag grounding transformer can be used.
