It is a continuous tube, which allows drainage of liquid through intermediate point to the reservoir that is higher or lower than the reservoir. The flow is through an intermediate point that is higher, or lower, than the reservoir, the flow being moved by the difference in hydrostatic pressure without pumping need. It is important that the final end of the tube should be lower than that of liquid surface of the reservoir.

Application

In order to prevent live steam from entering a pressure gauge Bourdon tube, a siphon filled with water should be installed between the gauge and the process line. Also use siphons whenever condensing hot vapors (not just steam) are present.
