Description:It is an aminofluroquinoline and exerts its antibacterial activity by the inhibition of DNA replication of bacteria by inhibiting DNA gyrase activity. Its absorption begins soon after oral administration. The distribution of sparfloxacin in nasal mucosa and sinus mucosa is primarily high. It is metabolised by the liver to an inactive acylglucuronide conjugate. The terminal plasma elimination half-life is about 20 Hrs. Elimination of sparfloxacin is complete. Sparfloxacin has pronounced action against Gram positive pathogens strepto and Staph than Ciprofloxacin and has coverage against wide range of pathogens including Pseudomonas Entero bacteriacea and other stubborn Gram negative pathogens.

Indications:Pneumonia, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, lower respiratory tract infection, acute sinusitis, gonococcal and non-gonococcal urethritis in males. Chlamydial, skin and soft tissue, Bone and Joint infections, Salmonellosis.
Dosage :Lower respiratory tract infections: 400mg as single dose on the first day followed by 200mg each day for 10 days.
