EN36c

EN36c is a nickel, chromium, molybdenum grade which is suitable for deep hardening to develop a tough core. EN36c is characterised by high core strength, excellent toughness and fatigue resistance, is is used in components that require high surface wear resistance, high core strength and good impact properties.

Typical application of EN36c include: heavy duty bushings, heavy duty gears, shafts, cams and rollers.

Hardening

Case hardening will give a hard wear resisting surface and a tough core strength EN36c. Surfaces must be free from dirt and grease, and of low sulphur content. Case hardening can be carried out in salt baths with selected content depending on the type of salt and the depth of penetration required. Case hardening temperatures range from 860-960C, followed by rapid quenching which will determine the resulting hardness.

Tempering

For optimum toughness temper at low temperatures for a minimum of 2 hours. The case hardness should be in the region of 60-62HRc
