This grade is a low alloy chromium,
manganese case hardening steel. Carburised 16MnCr5 gives a hard
case with a strong core whilst retaining a degree of toughness. It is
suited for applications which require a combination of toughness and
wear resistance and is commonly supplied in round bar

This carburising steel grade is
suitable for shafts, gears, pinions, colletts, pins and camshafts and
is commonly used in the engineering and automitive industries.

HARDENING

Case hardening will give a hard wear
resisting surface combined with a tough core strength. Case hardening
temperatures range from 780-820C, followed by rapid quenching and
tempering which will determine the resulting hardness.

Tempering
temperature: 150-200C
