COMPOSITION

EMETIN 4mg Mouth dissolving (M D) Tablets & EMETIN 2mg / 5ml syrup

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Ondansetron is a selective 5-HT₃ receptor antagonist. While its mechanism of action has not been fully characterized,

Serotonin receptors of the 5-HT₃ type are present both peripherally on vagal nerve terminals and centrally in the chemoreceptor trigger zone of the area postrema. It is not certain whether ondansetron's antiemetic action is mediated centrally, peripherally, or in both sites. However, cytotoxic chemotherapy appears to be associated with release of serotonin from the enterochromaffm cells of the small intestine.

HIGHLIGHTS OF EMETIN

Emetin does not cause lethargy or extra pyramidal symptoms caused by dopamine antagonists such as Metoclopramide

Emetin is a serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist with no dopamine antagonist activity

Emetin is recommended for treating and preventing nausea and vomiting associated with antineoplastic treatment in children

Emetin is at least 70 times more potent than Metoclopramide at peripheral 5-HT3 receptors

INDICATIONS

1. Chemotherapy-induced Nausea & Vomiting,

2. Post-operative Nausea & Vomiting,

3. Post-radiation Nausea & Vomiting

4. Acute Gastroenteritis,

DOSAGE: - ONE TAB OR 2.5 to 5 ml SYP ONCE A DAY
