Description : Brown colored fine spray dried powder
Solubility : Freely soluble in water, practically insoluble in most of the organic solvents like Acetone, Ethanol, and, propanol.
Clarity : 1% solution in water clear without any sedimentation.
Identification :
Test for Iron :Gives blue colour to potasium ferricyanate.
Test for Protein : Gives Violet colour with Ninhydrin Reagent.
Loss On Drying : N.M.T 7% as loss on drying at 1050C
pH of 2% solution : 4.5-6.0
Bulk Density : 0.5 - 0.6 (On Tapped Density Apparatus)
Total Microbial Count : Not Exceeding 1000 CFU per gm. (By employing plate method)
Pathogens : Absent
Heavy Metals : Not more than 50 ppm.
Arsenic : NMT 2 ppm
Lead : NMT 25 ppm
Ferrous Iron content : 19% to 21% (On Dried Bases)
Nitrogen Content : 9.0% to 11.0% (On Dried Bases)
Usage :As source of Iron in pharmaceutical preparations for making syrups, drops, tablets and capsules.
Can also be used in food products and veterinary preparations as source of Iron.
