A machine that has a rolling part or wheel needs a gear. A gear is a rotating machine part having teeth which mesh with another toothed part of a gear to transmit a moment of force. Mostly teeth on the gear are of identical shapes. Sometimes teeth are not parallel to the axis of rotation, but set at an angle. These kinds of gears are called helical gears. Helical gears are also known as dry fixed gears.

The teeth of the helical gears are meshed with either parallel or crossed teeth gear. There is a specific type of helical gear which has double sided teeth. It is called the double helical gear. These gears overcome the problem of axial thrust created by single helical gears. Additionally the double helical gears give more strength as there is no sideways force on the mounting of shafts. This gear can be seen as two mirrored helical gears joined together.
