Avonex Injection

Avonex (Interferon beta-1a) Injection is basically a 166 amino acid glycoprotein. With a molecular weight of approximately 22,500 daltons, the medicine is formulated by recombinant DNA technology. It is made by introducing human interferon beta gene on to the genetically engineered Chinese Hamster Ovary cells. The amino acid sequence of the medicine is quite identical to that of natural human interferon beta. A sterile, white to off-white lyophilized powder, the medicine is for intramuscular injection only. It is widely prescribed to patients suffering from relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis.
