We are exporters and we have sent two containers to Zanzibar port (Tanzania) transit time from JNPT to Zanzibar is 30 days.
But till today our container has not been reach Zanzibar port. Now our buyer neither ready to take delivery nor ready to pay for the same container.
Please guide us what can we do ? Can we take legal action against ship.co.? Or should we lodge our claim to ship. co ? Please help us in this matter. Our two container value is Rs. 24 lacs.

It all depends on nature of the cargo. It would be wise to float an ad on internet for disposal of such items. if foodstuff is loaded, best source of disposal would be Dubai in the middle east.
Shipping companies never take any responsibilities on their part on the delays caused. if you have muscle to fight with them, then it is your choice. otherwise delays caused by them are always at the cost of either exporter or the importer.

Next time when u export any shipments which value is more and the transit time is long send your shipments on CIF basis so that you will be on the safe side and any problems you can claim the insurance.
Especially if u send any shipments countries like Africa,Iran, Afghanistan. Please kindly ensure that your shipment is 100 % insured.Because this country port authorities are not sincere n honest.
