The external debt data up to June-end 2007 have been compiled. An RBI release said that the external debt was placed at $165.4 billion, recording an increase of $8.7 billion or 5.6 percent over the March-end 2007 levels.
According to the component analysis, external commercial borrowings (ECBs) contributed around 63 percent of the increase in total external debt, followed by NRI deposits (15.6 percent) and trade credit up to one year maturity, excluding the suppliers' credit up to 180 days (12 percent).
