Mr. Rakesh Vaid who has recently assumed as Chairman of Apparel Export Promotion Council for the years 2008 and 2009 visited Tirupur to interact with Exporters with a main objective of building up Knitwear Sector and promote Knitwear Trade to new heights.
Knitwear Exports constitute nearly 40% of total Readymade Garment Exports of all fibres from India.
In this connection, an Exporters' Meet was organized in Tirupur Exporters Association on 19th Janaury, 2008. More than 100 exporters participated in this meet.
Mr. A. Sakthivel, Past Chairman of Apparel Export Promotion Council and President of Tirupur Exporters Association welcomed the gathering and introduced newly elected Chairman of AEPC to the exporters.
Mr.Rakesh Vaid, Chairman, AEPC while delivering his address he mentioned about the projects envisaged by AEPC to uplift the Garment Trade both in International as well as in domestic markets.
The projects envisaged are:
1. To establish Knitwear Technology Mission, which will involve in developing latest fabrics, latest technology in manufacturing, latest designing to increase the value chain in the light of Rupee appreciation and we have to live with it.
It is a pride of Tirupur Exporters that AEPC is going to set up this mission with Head Quarters at Tirupur and it will be headed by Shri.A.Sakthivel, past Chairman of AEPC who has been instrumental for Tirupur becoming a Knitwear supply hub in the global map.
2. The present AEPC will be renamed as APPAREL TRADE PROMOTION COUNCIL to promote trade both in international and domestic markets, as the entire World Trade is going to be single market in the Quota free regime.
3. Since Tirupur is already established in the global map as a biggest Knitwear supplier from India and already attained its identity in manufacturing of quality knitwear, Shri. Rakesh Vaid has come forwarded to promote "MADE IN TIRUPUR (INDIA)" as a Trade Mark in the global market.
He also assured to extend all possible support from AEPC since Knit Garment is going to play a vital role in achieving the target of Ready Made Garment Trade.
4. He also assured to upgrade the existing Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) and introduce short term technical courses in Designing and Merchandising.
5. Apparel Export Promotion Council has already established an APPAREL MART consisting of 250 show rooms in the APPAREL HOUSE in Gurgaon near Delhi.
He has also decided to organize the ensuing India International Garment Fair from July 2008 in APPAREL HOUSE AT GURGAON.
6. Mr. Rakesh Vaid has also proposed and suggested to construct a similar APPAREL MART in Tirupur after identifying suitable land mainly to promote Knitwear Trade both in International and domestic market.
7. It is also expected and projected that India's Textile and Clothing Trade will be at 160 billion dollars by 2015 and share of clothing will be 60 billion dollars.
Mr. Rakesh Vaid said that to meet out the challenges, it is imperative the need of implementing the proposed project so that industry can gear up to meet out the future challenges and achieve the set goals.
