Member countries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation will showcase their traditional crafts at the SAARC Museum of textiles and handicraft that was inaugurated in New Delhi recently.
"During the 14th SAARC Summit held in April this year, it was decided that India would host the SAARC Museum to preserve designs in various crafts, related traditions, train artisans, organise promotional events, foster design skills and undertake research," Minister of State for Textiles E V K S Elangovan said at the inauguration of the SAARC Museum.
The museum would start operations from the National Handicraft and Handlooms Museum.
With a view to promoting textiles of countries in the south Asian bloc, an exhibition - Textile Traditions of South Asia - was also inaugurated by the minister.
The fortnight-long exhibition is part of the SAARC cultural festival and is being facilitated by the Handicrafts and Handlooms Exports Corporation of India.
