India and Pakistan will set up a joint study group to explore possibility of coordination in exports, particularly in sectors such as textiles.
The group would comprise four members from the private sector and make recommendations for enhancing combined share of India and Pakistan in the global market, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan Chief Executive Tariq Ikram said at a PHD Chamber seminar here.
"There is also the possibility of forming joint ventures between the two countries in product lines that have export potential," he said.
Referring to the scope of such arrangements in the textile sector, Ikram said the combined market share of India and Pakistan in segments like garments, made-ups and towels was far below China.
"A joint strategy for marketing such goods in the international market would boost exports from both nations," he said.
Pakistan has also sought India's help in upgradation of technology and machines in its ginning industry.
"The quality of ginning machinery manufacturing in Pakistan is low as compared to India. The mills require technological upgradation that can be done by India either through joint ventures or by exporting such machinery," Pakistan Textile Secretary Zafar Mahmood said.
There are about 1,270 ginning mills in Pakistan and the number would increase year after year, he said adding that a delegation of Indian manufacturers, particularly from the private sector, could visit Pakistan to explore the market and discuss measures of technological upgradation.
